Only the landscapes he shoots aren't those that are the standard fodder for National Geographic or would hang on the wall next to the Ansel Adams photos. His landscapes are those that we have created. He started out after stumbling upon the remnants of a strip mine in Pennsylvania while out shooting standard landscapes. This evolved into a true exploration of our relationship with the earth, tracing materials from their source in the earth to their processing and manufacturing to their eventual discard and recycling.
I was brought to his works through a documentary, Manufactured Landscapes. The documentary can be a little slow, but if you watch it with an open mind, it's an incredible view.
